Often nicknamed “sea parrots” or “clowns of the sea“, these beautiful Atlantic puffins are relatively small seabirds measuring around 25cm in length. When not clambering on rocks Puffins spend most of their lives out at sea, resting on the waves when not swimming.
Puffins are great flyers, flapping their wings up to 400 times a minute and speeding through the air at up to 88km an hour. What’s more, these cute little birds are great swimmers, too! Using their webbed feet as a rudder, puffins can dive down 60m underwater in search of their favourite food which comprises of small fish such as herring, hake and sand eels.
Thanks to @sarah.bethea for posting this great picture on Instagram. We love puffins; probably one of the cutest birds out there we reckon!
