Wasn’t there another experiment they did kind of like this but a different animal (some kind of monkey, I think) and what happened was the males started bartering for sex.

Because they’re parrots, not jackasses.

I wonder what would have happened if they both gave the parrots less tokens, and didn’t give them any more after they were used up… Leaving the parrots hungry for a bit. When put in pairs would they still be as willing to give away tokens that they consider more precious?

Not a very ethical experiment but I’m curious now

Edit: spelling

Does anyone have a citation or link to the research paper/study referenced? I’d like to verify the claim and learn more about how the experiment was conducted.

But those parrots didn’t even control the means of food production. This was just a parrot welfare state!

Filthy caparrotists.

And then wasn’t it apes or chimps that were given currency in an experiment and figured out they could trade it for sex?

That’s charity

If the head bird forcefully took everyone’s tokens, redistributed them while keeping more for themselves, that’s communism
