  1. I once met a dog just like that one, I still have a scar

(He didnt bite me or something, he was tied to a 10 or so meter rope and he ran to another dog, the rope cut into my leg. It was done in about half a second, that says something about the speed)

  2. I’m from Georgia and my family owned one when I was a kid. He was yellow and HUGE. Looked like a lion. We called him Simba.

  3. Acktually that is Georgian shepherd dog, Russians imported breed during Soviet times and call it “Caucasian” to somehow remove Georgian roots for obvious reasons.

There are two types of Georgian shepherd – one with “high fur” just like on the photo, other named “Kosa” (which means beardless in Georgian) has way low fur, and [Looks like this](//i.imgur.com/vaoePqO.jpg)

In fact Georgians would get upset if you try to attach Caucasian Shepard to Russia, since Russia registered it as Soviet breed, Georgians were left with only option to register Kosa variant as a separate breed, while these are same breeds.

  4. I encountered these in Georgia. Very scary dogs and only obey their owner. I was told to go nowhere near one in foot. The ones I saw were vicious and huge. This picture is very cute though.

    Edit: typo

  5. Walked out of my apartment with my 35lb timid pup one day to encounter one of these beasts just chilling on my neighbor’s porch. She was the sweetest gentle giant, to my relief!

  6. I have a cross bred one! The sweetest boy I’ve ever owned but very protective of me. Takes a bit for men to gain his trust but when they do they’re his best buds ahah

  7. Caucasian Ovcharka, really cool dogs but an absolute handful. I’ve only met one in my life and I’ve worked with thousands of dogs. They are absolute beasts in size and personality.

  8. Wow. He’s big. We have a Portuguese Mountain Dog who’s similar, but tops out around 130lbs. This guy seems a bit bigger

  9. Such a cool animal. I believe these are also called Caucasian Ovcharkas. A main character in many of Spy/Spec Ops/Geo-political author’s [Brad Thor] books has two of them. From context, if true, they can be very dangerous.

  10. My Papa bred these back in Hungary. As soon as I was of age to currently I’ve had mastiffs. Nothing beats having a beast by your side.

  11. Are these related to the Balkan Šar Planinec dogs? Because a neighbour used to have one of those and they look very similar, though this is a bit bigger
